I Got Fired Today. It's Time.

Posted by Hairmilked - September 2nd, 2022

Hi there, I hope you're having a lovely day.

Today was a bit of a let down, as I just finished my 4th month in my job, and the management let go of a few staff (including me). It was budgetary so no hard feelings, but being called in after performing all my tasks and just fired burned a lot. The company was very kind to offer us alternatives and new employment by application through them. On the other hand I realized that this may be a blessing in disguise.

I recently published my first EP, and I'm currently working with a university for a public performance in a similar route that my last 2 OSTs went. The EP won't make money aside from Bandcamp, however the OST will pay 1/3 of my rent. I've been trying to make music a part time job for a while now, and I believe this is my chance.

Instead of wallowing, I want to take an IRL part time job and use this opportunity to make the rest of my money through Commissions, Selling sample / music packs, Soundtrack work and potentially Live gigs. I understand a lot of people have probably gone or are going this route currently, so whining about the difficulty is the least of my concerns.

The plan is to open commissions on my Kofi, which will also contain sample packs, first of which will be a minimal electronics one. Additionally I need to create 2 soundtracks; 1 for the performance, and 1 to sell online to game dev libraries. I'm also probably going to need to get that IRL part-time job to negate some issues in case I can't make the rent next month.

To be honest I am privileged in this position, it's not really a do or die, I live with my beautiful gf who can support me and if it comes down to it I can get another office job; but I think this is a chance to make my dream come true. It's still going to be a lot of work, and I'm sure to have hiccups along the way, but this could be the start of a professional life in music; even if it results in a hard time for the next year.

I hope y'all can wish me luck in this challenge for the future, and if you need electronic music, give me a shout.

Take care, and stay safe.

Nothing but best wishes on your endeavour.

Thank you so much ?

I wish them all the best too.
I would also like to get in touch with you about music (for a project).
But I would be interested to know how long you need on average for a song?

I wish you the best of luck! It sounds like you've got a game plan for your music and an optimistic attitude, and those things will take you far. Pretty awesome that you're taking music commissions now on Ko-fi. If I have some money to spare, I may get one or donate at the very least.
